Aveda...Sulfate Free?

I recently emailed Aveda's customer service to find out whether the company has a sulfate free shampoo that I could purchase.

I just got a response from Aveda, which I wanted to share in case someone else is looking for vegetal-based shampoos that don't contain sulfate. These are:
  • Scalp Beneifts Balancing Shampoo
  • Damage Remedy Restructuring Shampoo
  • Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo
  • Mens Pureformance Shampoo
My interest emerged as I was walking out from my Brazilian blowout at my favorite Aveda salon (Asha at the Shops on Butterfield) back in December and my stylist stopped to recommend a couple of shampoos I might use. I was perplexed by some of his recommendations since he had just mentioned I need to stay clear of sulfates.

An interesting bit of information that the Aveda customer service specialist shared with me in her email is that Aveda uses vegetal-only sources for foaming agents. Although a particular ingredient on a bottle may be the same on Aveda and another brand, there's no way of telling where the other brand's ingredient was sourced (vegetal/natural vs. petrochemical). Aveda apparently uses babasu, palm, and coconut for foaming agent base ingredients/sources.

This was enlightening information, that I had no idea about! ^_^
